5-6 apples in a kilo
Granny Smith is medium to large in size. The bright green of the unripe apple turns to a golden green/yellow when fully ripe. It is crisp and flavoursome when ripe. Rather tart when not so ripe.
This is Australia’s “most famous apple” discovered by a neighbour after Mrs Anne Smith of Ryde, Sydney (in 1868) had tipped out some French Crab apples she had brought back from Sydney town alongside the creek at the back of her block. One seedling tree began to grow and produce this excellent apple.
Very good for cooking, eating, baking and of course is one of the staple fruits for those undertaking fasting and detox juices.
The Growers:
Graeme & Fiona Schultz, have been supplying us with their Apples for the past 15+years.
Located locally at Forest Range, the family property stretches over 60hectares…25 of which is Orchard, the other 35 remaining virgin bush land.
They grow an extensive variety - including Fujis, Pink Ladys, Jonathons, Granny Smiths, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Braeburn Apples.
The season runs from February to September - after which we source from other growers around Australia to fill the void.
We applaud the Schultz family for their commitment to the environment as well as a big thank you for supplying us with the most sought after apples in Australia.
