About Almond Grove

Fed up: A MURRAY Bridge free range egg producer is among a group of South Australian so fed up with current free range standards that they have taken it upon themselves to establish a new labelling system. John Holland of Almond Grove Egg Farm will be introducing a new free range label for his eggs, along with 17 other frustrated South Australian producers. In South Australia, there is currently no standard definition for free range eggs. So the State’s 18 producers who adhere to the Humane Society International’s free range standard of 1500 hens per hectare have fought back at larger producers labelling their eggs as free range despite having up to 20,000 hens per hectare. The group will be producing new free range labels for their packaging as a last resort after State Minister for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries Gail Gago postponed any action from the State Government last month.
